August Bank Holiday 2009
Sports Day
The
August Bank Holiday weekend kicked off as usual with the children's
sports day. Congratulations to the Pemberton Team who for the third
successive year won the Hidden Valley Sports Day! In close
contention was the Swift Team, with the Atlas Team coming third and
Willerby in fourth place. Congratulations to all those who took part
in the sports day – for their excellent display of sportsmanship.
Congratulations also to all those on the organising team who
executed such a fun event for the competitors and spectators alike.

August Bank Holiday 2009
Hog Roast
The
annual hog roast was this year moved into the cattle barns with a
country and western themed fancy dress. However a special mention
has to go to the smurfs for a very unexpected appearance!
|
|
A good time was had by all with plenty of food and good music,
even an escaped horse managed to find its way into the barn later on
in the evening, although we suspect Tony May and Dave Hirst may have
known more than they were letting on!

Mixed Doubles
Tennis Tournament
A new format to the team selection process this year produced a
new winning team of Wes Lawrence and Ashley Birch - both lads
putting on a superb performance. Names were put into a hat to select
the teams – this idea was kindly suggested by four times winners
Neil & Sharon Oakes. It worked very well with fierce competition
throughout! All matches were highly entertaining and the standard of
play was excellent.
Neil was unable to play this year due to injury during the dads
and lads football, but Sharon played with her usual brilliance and
was runner-up, partnering newcomer to the tennis, Paul Taylor. Many
congratulations to all those who took part and we very much hope to
see them all back next year!

Junior Mixed Doubles
Tennis Tournament

Last year’s runners
up, Corinne Langley and Jake Hirst put on a fine performance to win
the 2009 Junior Tennis Tournament. Runners-up to them were Billy May
and Beth Birch who also played some excellent tennis with
exceptional sportsmanship being displayed throughout the entire
tournament.
Corrine and Jake played
to a tie brake in their first round, against Katie Bullock and Matt
Harrison (last year’s winner) and won by 7 points to 3 – a very
close match enjoying a really high standard of tennis from all
players. Billy and Beth fought a close battle in their first round
against William Packer and Emily Turner, winning by 6-4.
Many
thanks to all those who took part and provided such great spectator
sport and to all those supporters who gave their encouragement
throughout!

Greensome Golf Competition
Many
thanks to Barry Hodgkiss, assisted by Ann Loundes and Mike Langley
for a superbly organised Greensome Competition to highlight the
August Bank Holiday Weekend – we are most grateful to this new
team for organising this event to perfection!
Congratulations to this
year’s winners of the competition – Steve Edwards and Barry
Hodgkiss coming out on top after a tightly fought final round with
Sharon Oakes and Gordon Chawner. Congratulations also to Barry
Hodgkiss for winning Nearest the Pin.

Clay Pigeon Shooting
Congratulations to Ben Benham for winning the clay pigeon
shooting competition. He managed to hold off stiff competition from
last years winner as well as several of the other shooters, hitting
a fantastic 9 out of 10 clays on the overhead drive!

|
|
The day was not all about the experienced shooters though with
plenty of first time participants coming along to try there luck!
